DIVISION III
1. Seton Catholic. (1) 4-0. Will it see its first loss of the season in this weekend's Westwood TOC?
2. Cactus. (2) Just 1-0 after win over Greenway. Good test vs. Peoria, which may be looked on as the favorite, tonight.
3. Catalina. (4) Already 11-1 after second-place finish in the TUSD tournament.
4. Saguaro. (3) 2-0 after five-game win over Thunderbird and four-game win over Fountain Hills.
5. Greenway (7) 3-1. Loss to Cactus. Good win vs. Cortez and Thunderbird. Moves up with other team's losses.
6. Higley (X) -- Jumps up after beating Williams Field.
7. Williams Field (5) 1-3 after tough early schedule with losses to Mountain Pointe, Seton Catholic and Higley.
8. Amphitheater (6) -- 2-6. Five losses to teams in higher division in TUSD tourney.
9. Monument Valley (X) -- 8-0 and in the rankings after winning Fountain Hills tournament against pretty good competition. Likely to move up as season unfolds.
10. Cortez (9) -- 3-1 after loss to Greenway.

Dropped out: Palo Verde (10)

Others: Tuba City deserves recognition after winning Payson tournament. Sahuarita beat Palo Verde twice but lost to Monument Valley in Fountain Hills tournament. Fountain Hills also has had good showings, finished second in its own tournament.

Well, what are your thoughts?

Let me just say that I agree with TORO, from another thread, that the AIA made it significantly more difficult for the White Mountain Teams to compete with the larger Phoenix and Tucson programs.
My question is, why in the world would the Athletic Directors of these schools not get the volleyball programs into Division 4 as they did for football and other sports?

Someone please explain.

PRESEASON RANKINGS
DIVISION III
1. Seton Catholic. Can Lauren Betlach and Haley Lawless really end their careers with four straight state titles?

2. Cactus. Young and small. But as always, as well-coached as any team in the state.

3. Saguaro. Five starters return from a solid 4A-I team last season.

4. Catalina. Six starters return for a very well-rounded team.

5. Williams Field. Rich Lanzone is proving to be one of the better coaches in the state.

6. Amphitheater. Lost Tori Lane to graduation and Kerry Lane to a transfer (Canyon del Oro) but still has the experience to make noise this season.

7. Greenway. A solid team, year after year.

8. Thunderbird. The Weilers, senior Kailee and freshman Lyndsey , lead an ever-improving team.

9. Cortez. Key players return from a team that upset Paradise Valley in the first round of last season's 4A-II tournament.

10. Palo Verde. A rebuilding season but Jazmin Rogers can take this team to a successful season in Division III.

The rural schools may find it tough to compete in Division III but that doesn't mean they won't find success. Up to 11 rural teams, who were in Small School divisions last season, could make their way into the top 10 this season. Teams like Tuba City, Florence, Fountain Hills, Monument Valley, Window Rock, Safford, Estrella Foothills, Blue Ridge, Snowflake, Payson and (not-so-rural but still a small school) Pusch Ridge Christian are ready to pounce.

props to the small town teams that were not recognized early in the season for making it to the state tourney:
Blue Ridge
Florence
Safford
Snowflake
Window Rock
Tuba City
Monument Valley
Fountain Hills...Although they could be considered to be in the valley.

Half of the state qualifiers...Thats the way to represent small ball!

Now go to Prescott and finish this season strong!

DIVISION II
1. Sunnyslope. (1) -- Finished seventh overall at Nike. 17-0 in power point matches. Still the title favorite no matter what seed it is.

3. Arcadia (3) -- Along with Ironwood, Sunnyslope's biggest competition. Finished fifth at Nike Silver bracket (21st overall).
4. Liberty (4) -- Solid October sees itself climb into the top 16 of power rankings after being on te outside looking in for much of the season.
t-5. Notre Dame Prep (5) -- Surprise team of season. Top seed in D-II state tourney.
t-5. Flagstaff (7) -- Again showed it's one of D-II's upper echelon teams. Won Nike Silver bracket (17th overall but top in its given division).

8. Salpointe Catholic (8) -- Lost to Ironwood Ridge to end season.
9. Marana Mountain View (6) -- Finished last week of season 2-1 with loss to Ironwood Ridge.
